The profile of the biotechnology engineer

Biotechnology engineers have competences in solving important agricultural problems: microreproduction of plants through genetical engineering techniques, in vitro tissue and cell culture creation, technological improvement of plants and animals, enhancement of nutritional values and animal health, conservation of plant and animal genetical resources, obtaining plant- and animal-based products with enhanced nutritional profile, recycling of agricultural residual products, biological management of soil and water, production of alternative energy sources based on organic residue from agriculture, animal husbandry and food industry.

Professional prospects

Agricultural biotechnologies are based on controlled and artificial manipulation of genetical information of plants, animals and microorganisms.

The multidisciplinary development of a biotechnology engineer allows him/her to be active in:

  • laboratories focused on analysis, certification, expertise and accreditation in biotechnology fields.
  • companies or units centered on processing raw materials of plant origin.
  • units where plant- and animal-based produce are processed;
  • laboratories specialized in the environmental protection;
  • food safety and control;
  • research and education;
