Besides the development of partnership and collaboration between institutions and research teams with important experience in the field, the project will focus in setting of new, efficient interdisciplinary working methods and techniques. This will allow a quick and efficient solve of the varieties breeding problems and the implementation of new ideas with high level of complexity that will correspond actual tendences of world wide research. Working methods and techniques will be performed with new devices and equipments existent at the partner institutions.
To achieve project objectives there will be made an evaluation of sweet cherry germoplasm fond existent at S.C.D.P. Iasi, I.C.D.P. Pitesti-Maracineni and U.S.A.M.V. Iasi.
Biological material used for hybridization (genitors) will be genetically and biochemical characterized and analyzed for the selection of the most valuable genotypes. Also, the same set of analyses will be performed at new cultuvars and the results wil be compared with ones of the genitors. Thus, knowing genitors and new cultivars genetic-biochemical characteristics could be found genotypes mutual way of interception and its effects upon cultivars biochemical behavior and interest genes level of expression that determines pests and diseases resistance, draught and low temperatures resistance, soil, air and water chemical contamination, glucides and vitamins content etc.
The final aims of the researches are:
Valuable genes selection of economic interest through modern breeding techniques and using them for new, superior sweet cherry cultivars, economical and technological competitive, according with European standards;
Planting material multiplication and the release on the market of the most productive cultivars with adequate growing and bearing features for establishing intensive orchards with high resistance at biotic and abiotic factors.
Specific aims of the researches are:
- Sweet cherries germoplasm founds accounting of U.S.A.M.V. Iasi, S.C.D.P., Iasi and I.C.D.P., Pitesti-Maracineni and the most proper genotypes selection, regarding their quality, adaptability and resistance at principal pathogens.
- Study and analyses of fruit trees varieties and following hybrids: H.C. 840808, H.C. 840933, H.C. 871616, H.C. 893705, regarding their genetics and biochemistry to emphasing the most value characters.
- Planting material reproduction of new hybrids combinations that includes more value genes from different sweet cherries genotypes.
- Genetics and biochemical characterizations of new created hybrids, selection of the best engrafting combinations regarding their quality, productivity an behavior in drafting processes and results dissemination.
