CAIM 2011

          

The Romanian Society of Applied and Industrial Mathematics (ROMAI), "Ion Ionescu de la Brad" University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Iaşi (UASVM), The Academy of Romanian Scientists (ARS), the Faculty of Mathematics of the "Al. I. Cuza" University of Iaşi (UAIC), "Gh. Asachi" Technical University of Iaşi (TUI) and the Romanian Mathematical Society - Iaşi branch announce the organization of the 19th Conference on Applied and Industrial Mathematics - CAIM 2011. The Conference will be held in Iaşi, between the 22nd and 25th of September, 2011.

ROMAI was founded in 1992. It is a non-profit scientific association whose members are mathematicians, physicists, engineers, chemists, biologists, economists, and other scientists from Romania, Republic of Moldova, and some other countries. ROMAI encourages and promotes scientific development in all areas of applied mathematics and engineering sciences. ROMAI organizes annually, since 1993, the Conference on Applied and Industrial Mathematics (CAIM).

Universities in Iaşi: "Al. I. Cuza" University (the oldest university in Romania, founded in 1860), "Gh. Asachi" Technical University, "Grigore T. Popa" University of Medicine and Pharmacy, "Ion Ionescu de la Brad" University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, "George Enescu" University of Arts, the Roman Catholic Theological Institute.

Iaşi is the most important historical, economic, and cultural center in northeast Romania. In this area, the archaeological researches have discovered traces of the ancient Culture of Cucuteni, flourishing about 5000 years ago. Iasi City is documentary certified from the 14th century during the reign of Alexandru cel Bun. The name of Iaşi City is bound up with the so-called "golden period" of the Romanian culture. At the beginning of the 19th century, here was established the first high education school in Romanian.

In 1860 Al. I. Cuza, the first ruler of the United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia, founded in Iaşi the first university in Romania, later named "Al. I. Cuza" University.

In 1912, the Agricultural Science Department was set up within the Faculty of Sciences of "Al. I. Cuza" University.

Many Romanian personalities lived, studied, worked and created in Iasi.

The city is well known as a major cultural city.
