RESEARCH PROGRAM
Title
Laboratory for testing and control of the genetic
modified organisms and of the obtained food stuff products The
aspects connected with food and nutrition are a main domain of European Union
policy. Romania must implement the standards imposed by EU regarding food
stuffs quality and safety. It is a wish to exist a permanent monitorization
of all the food product and ingredients on the whole chain from farm to
consumer, to be able to interfere in case of necessity. At
national level must be settled up some laboratories well organized and
equiped which must be able to satisfy the European standards and to be
acreditated in the testing and control field of activity. Ten
years ago was introduced in the european supermarkets (United Kingdom) the
first product obtained from GMO (tomato paste). This was labeled, the
consumer was informed regarding this aspect. After that, the explosive
development of the numbers of the transgenic cultivars (from a number from
more and more species) and especially of the cultivated areas at world level
leads to the appearance on the market of some products that even were
obtained from GMO, was not corectly labeled. Such products which not respect
the present laws were identified (biscuits, soups etc.) in the great store
chains. Analysing
the vegetal raw materials and of the obtained food products will permit
appreciations regarding the presence or absence of the GMOs. The main aim of the project is to create a
laboratory for genetic analyse of the classical and transgenic crops and also
to be able to determinate the quality of the agricultural products from the
point of view of presence of the content in GMO. Will be elaborate the quality
handbook and the general and specific procedures to determinate the quality
of the products. The project will be finished
with the acreditation of the laboratory for testing and control of the crops
and agricultural products. Will be used new working methods to detect GMOs
which are or will be elaborated by Commissions
Joint Research Center. Capitalization of scientifical
results will be realised by: web-page; brochures, flyiers, CDs, commercials in
scientific journals or radio and TV; workshops; scientifical papers published in
country and abroad; participation at conferences and
symposiums. Was achieved or are in course
